How do I prepare for my waxing session

Waxing is the process of hair removal from the root using professional wax to adhere to body hair and then removing this covering and pulling the hair out of the follicle.

New hair will not grow back in the previously grown area for four to six weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, pubic hair (called bikini waxing or intimate waxing), legs, arms, back, stomach, chest, knuckles and feet.

Will my hair get thinner again?

As hair is pulled from the roots, hair growth is reduced. It varies from person to person, but although your hair will grow out less, it’s not necessarily thinner. You just get less of it.

Does waxing hurt as much as people say?

Firstly, it depends on where you get waxing done. If you get an intimate wax, you will undoubtedly experience some pain, but even with this, some parts are less sensitive than others. In addition, the first time is the worst, so if you get it done every 3-6 weeks when the hair is growable again, the pain is reduced. You can read our blog post on tips to reduce the pain you may experience when waxing. Overall, some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, and most importantly, pain is subjective.

What is the difference between hot and strip wax?

Hot wax is for treating sensitive skin and thicker hair and will most likely be used for intimate waxing, while strip wax is for less sensitive skin and thinner hair and will most likely be used for areas like legs and arms.

what is the best way to get rid of red skin after waxing?

The simple but most effective way to soothe red skin is to moisturize. Waxing removes the top layer of the epidermis, revealing new, softer ones, while removing the skin’s natural oil and moisture. To restore moisture and rejuvenate the skin, it’s worth checking out some of these products we recommend to complement your waxing experience.

How does hair grow back?

If you become a regular waxer, you’ll notice that your hair becomes thinner, making it easier to remove… and less painful!

How often should I get waxing done?

It depends on how fast your hair grows, but on average we recommend waxing every 4 weeks. This is usually the right time to have hair at the right length and it will also allow the skin to be less sensitive to treatments. For our female customers: we recommend avoiding treatment around that time of the month: your skin will be more sensitive 5 days before and after.

How long does the hair need to be to get waxed?

The ideal length for waxing is around 1/4 inch to 1/2 an inch (0.5 cm to 1.5 cm). If your hair is not long enough, our therapist will inform you about it. If you decide to continue treatment, it’s no problem. However, it is likely that we will not be able to remove all the hair as they will be too short to adhere to the wax. Similarly, if the hair is too long, the therapist can trim it for you, as waxing will be more painful with longer hair.

Can I use a sunbed or sunbathe after waxing?

Beware of the sun as we recommend avoiding the sun during the first 24 hours after a waxing treatment.

This is because the skin is more exposed and less protected. When it comes to tanning beds, it is usually recommended to avoid them at least a week before and after your waxing session.

The skin tends to absorb heat from UV light, which can cause the skin to peel or lift. This can irritate the skin during or after waxing.

How can I avoid feeling embarrassed during an intimate waxing?

It’s understandable that there may be some embarrassment, especially for first-time users, as you may feel a little uncomfortable being so exposed. Rest assured that our therapists have seen it all, and just like a doctor or nurse, that’s their job. As part of the treatment, you will be offered a pair of disposable briefs that you can choose to wear or not. Just remember that this is the norm and our therapists won’t even blink.

Is there a way to make intimate waxing less painful?

Taking painkillers can actually make treatment less painful. In particular, taking ibuprofen can help reduce any swelling that occurs after waxing. Also, make sure you’re not hungover. Alcohol is dehydrating and will tighten the pores, which in turn makes the waxing treatment more painful. We have a few more tips and tricks here for you so you can have a less painful waxing experience!

Can I get an intimate wax while I'm menstruating?

We don’t usually recommend getting a wax when it’s your time of the month, just because the skin is more sensitive around that time. So we advise against getting a wax treatment 5 days before and during your period.

Can I shave between treatments?

Resist the urge to pick up a scraper! We strongly advise you not to shave after having a waxing treatment. Shaving promotes ingrown hairs and abrasions and therefore counteracts all the benefits that waxing gives your skin. In addition, shaving makes your skin more sensitive, which will only make your next waxing session more painful.

Can I get an intimate wax if I'm pregnant?

Yeah, sure, just let us know so we’re aware.”
